Your enrollment checklist
Follow these steps to take ownership of your future and enroll for benefits.
Explore
- Explore this site to learn more about the benefits available to you
- Let the pros at the BCBS Decision Support Hotline help you compare your medical plan options and decide which plan is right for you. Call 800-358-2227, and select option 3.
- Take time to review any benefits tools and resources provided to you

Review
- Review your 2023 benefits coverage options. Ask yourself these questions: How is my health? Will I need to seek health care this year? Which family members should I cover? Do I have my beneficiary information?
- Do the math. To help you decide which medical plan works best for you, list all your medical costs, including doctor visits and prescription drug copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and your premiums. Look at how each of the medical plan options covers those same expenses.
- Eligible for a health savings account (HSA)? You need to make your tax-free contribution elections every year during your enrollment period.
- If you want to participate in a flexible spending account, you need to enroll every year. Estimate your 2023 expenses carefully before electing the amount of your contribution.
- Review your short-term disability, long-term disability, and life and AD&D insurance coverages. Don’t forget to add your beneficiaries.
- Consider participating in the 401(k) plan. Review the investment options on Principal’s website and decide whether to start saving.
